Three students from the School of Law, Vidyashilp University, made the University proud at the 1st National Moot Court Competition (2025–26), organised by Government Law College, Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, held from 26–28 December 2025, by securing third place for their Memorial submission and advancing to the Quarter Finals.

Professor Martin van Hees
Distinguished Visiting Professor, Vidyashilp University
Professor van Hees is a Dutch philosopher specializing in moral and political philosophy, with an interdisciplinary focus on ethics, political theory, and economics. In February, he will begin his term as Dean of the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. He is currently associated with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy. Until February 2025, he also served as Dean of Amsterdam University College.
At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, he led the launch of the John Stuart Mill College in 2016, establishing the Netherlands’ first undergraduate Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) programme. His research explores moral responsibility, justice, rights, and freedom, drawing on formal logic and game theory.
Professor van Hees has published widely in leading international journals. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and served two terms as member of its Board and as chair of the Academy’s Humanities division of KNAW. His editorial leadership includes Economics and Philosophy and several major journals in philosophy and political theory.

Course: Moral Philosophy and Justice
This course introduces central theories in contemporary moral philosophy and justice. It covers major approaches in normative ethics—utilitarianism, contract theory, deontology, virtue ethics, and the ethics of care—and applies them to issues such as inequality, migration, animal rights, and freedom of speech. The course also examines moral responsibility, punishment, and distributive justice, with attention to social and global justice.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to explain key moral theories, analyse moral responsibility and punishment, and critically assess competing accounts of distributive, social, and global justice.
