A highly experienced academic and administrator, Prof. P.G. Babu served for over three decades as a Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, an institution established by the Reserve Bank of India, where he was also the Dean of Graduate Studies. Prior to his current role at Vidyashilp University, he was the Director of the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) from 2019 to 2022. His research and teaching interests are deeply interdisciplinary, focusing on Microeconomic theory and Game theory with applications across fields such as Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Law and Economics, and Politics- Philosophy and Economics. His significant research contributions include work on the decision-making framework for climate change as part of the IPCC working group, which earned him a citation from the Prime Minister of India and was associated with the Nobel Memorial Peace Prize in 2007. Globally recognized, Professor Babu held the prestigious Adam Smith Chair Professorship in Philosophy and Economics at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, for multiple summer semesters. He has been the Mumbai Coordinator for the Erasmus Plus European Masters and Doctoral Programs in Law and Economics since 2009. Additionally, he has held prominent editorial positions, currently serving as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Quantitative Economics (Springer Nature) and previously as the Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Development and Change (Sage). An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), where he earned his Ph.D., Professor Babu is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) Delhi.
