Dr. Sreevidya Varma brings about 27 years of rich experience in research, teaching and academic leadership. Prior to her current role, she served as Head of Department, Basic Sciences and Humanities at CMR university for 5 years, led curriculum development, planned and organized all activities of the department, was part of multiple committees, conducted faculty and student development programs. She also worked in multiple academic and leadership roles across various reputed institutions.

She received her Ph.D. degree from the department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2014. For her doctoral work she was awarded the prestigious Srinivas Rao Krishnamurthy Gold medal of 2014-15 from Indian Institute of Science.

Following her Ph.D., she worked as a Senior Research Associate in Prof. Asokan’s Research Group, in the department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore receiving MHRD Research Associate fellowship from Govt. of India. Her research focused on semiconducting chalcogenide glasses for phase change memory, fast ion conducting oxide glasses and on Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors for bio-medical applications. She also worked in Department of Materials Engineering, IISc, working on nano-mechanical behaviour of materials.

She worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, working on flash sintering of oxides and ceramics in Mechanical Engineering Dept and conducted In-situ high temperature flash sintering x-ray diffraction experiments at National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS II), Brooke Haven National Laboratory, New York during her tenure as Research Associate in CU Boulder, USA. She was also the lab proctor, instrumental in coordinating and collaborating on national laboratory experiments with scientists globally and was in-charge environmental health and safety initiatives for the lab, ensuring safe and compliant workplace.

An accomplished experimentalist, team leader, project manager, and collaborator, she is keen to pursue interdisciplinary research across emerging fields. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, she is passionate about cultivating research-driven and inclusive learning experiences for diverse student communities.
